2019 – Rescued from 21 years in the circus. Masha & Laura are free.

Mission Accomplished… Twins rescued.

After spending their whole lives performing in the circus after being taken from their mother a only weeks old, 24 year old twin sisters Masha & Lora rescued and kept in our care for a number of months and then relocated to AMP Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania.
Masha and Lora were taken from their mother just a few weeks after they were born and spent their whole lives (24yrs) performing in the circus until we found and rescued the sisters. When they were not performing or training, they lived out their time in their 2.5m² travel crates.
Now they get to enjoy the rest of their lives, climbing trees, digging, foraging and even enjoying a swim in the forests of Romania where they will eventually adapt to their new life and even hibernate in the near future. There were so many firsts waiting for these sisters to experience and enjoy. Its their time and no more performing for anyone……
The trip to Romania was long with many hours spent at both custom control points and with vets in both countries. The weather when we left Kyiv was horrendous and we had enjoy peak hour traffic to get out of the city. We eventually arrived 7 hours late in Romania with the team for LIbearty anxiously waiting for us.
The sisters traveled well which we expected as this had been their whole life. I also think they felt comfortable in the original travel crates (which is extremely) but it did make the trip easier.
In the gallery below are actual photos of Masha and Lora performing and how they lived in those little travel crates. You can also see the state of their teeth and both girls had to have multiple extractions.
The last 3 photos are them having their first ever walk on grass and being able to interact with each.
